Getting to Peru

Oh well you know just the regular old red-eye to Miami where I landed at 7 am EST (4 am PST which is what I was used too.) I caught a couple hours of sleep on the floor, although near good real estate (the bathroom and the wall sockets) then headed to the gate. I attempted to fly standby to Lima, Peru but as luck would have it I missed the first flight out. I attempted to get my bag from American Airlines but they said it is standard procedure that it takes 2-8 hours for them to bring me my bag, somebody get them a customer service award now! This caused me to wait at the airport for the next American flight instead of attempting an alternate airline. The next American flight had an impossibly long stand by list and I didn't make that either. It turns out their was a fire at their airport near the runways and it caused massive delays so the standby list was insane, yours truly was last on every list =). Without my main bag, and it being nearly one in the morning I elected to crash at my "spot" again. Before going to sleep I met a sweet Peruvian girl named Paula and we conversed off and on throughout the night. There were a few older couples who were stranded as well and together we got as comfortable as could be. The lovely Peruvian people beamed with pride as I explained how badly I wanted to go to Peru. They were excited that I showed an interest in their country, attempted to communicate with them in their language (though my Spanish is awful), and that I would be volunteering and not just frolicking around. The next day I found out my bag was in Lima already, great, thanks guys! I about went berserk at that point so imagine how I felt after missing all four flights to Lima later in the day. At that point I could no longer risk stand by and had to buy a ticket. The excitement and anticipation I had for going to Peru was killing me and the carpets at the Miami airport (though a nice tint of green) were about as uncomfortable as I could imagine. I gave up on stand by and purchased the cheapest flight I could regardless of layovers. After staying up all night this time I caught the 7 am flight on AeroMexico to Mexico City. I landed around 9:45 am and had an 11 hour layover but hey at least I was out of Miami. I am on my way to my gate to finally board a plane bound for Lima. I'll spend two days in Lima and am excited to try out some of the local food, see a few sights, especially the Plaza de Armas and hopefully go fishing. On Saturday the 2nd of April I will take a 21 hour bus ride to my new home. Soon I will be in Peru, and shortly after that I will be in Cusco, Peru my home for the next three months while I volunteer for International Volunteer Head quarters working with children. Hasta pronto.
